Early Evaluations for Children

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a child’s first orthodontic visit around age seven. By then, enough permanent teeth have usually come in for us to spot concerns with spacing, bite, or jaw growth.

Most children don’t need treatment right away. Often, we simply monitor growth and recommend care only if and when it’s needed. When early treatment is helpful, it can guide jaw growth and make future treatment simpler.

Signs your child may benefit from an evaluation:

• Crowded, crooked, or widely spaced teeth
• Early or late loss of baby teeth
• Teeth that don’t meet properly when biting
• Difficulty chewing or biting
• Mouth breathing or thumb sucking past age five
• A jaw that shifts, clicks, or looks off-center

Treatment for Teens

The teen years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment. Most permanent teeth are in place, and growth is still happening, which helps treatment work efficiently.

Teens can choose from metal braces, clear ceramic braces, or clear aligners, with a plan that fits school, sports, and busy schedules.

Treatment for Adults

It’s never too late to improve your smile. Many adults choose treatment to address concerns that were never treated, or to correct teeth that have shifted over time. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, they can be moved at any age.
