Dr. William Mischler
Dr. Mischler completed all his education at the University of Louisville, earning his Bachelor of Science in Dental Science, his Doctor of Dental Medicine, and his orthodontic specialty certification. He began practicing orthodontics in 1981 and founded Mischler Orthodontics in 1988, building a thriving solo practice for over 35 years before welcoming Dr. Alec McDonald as an associate in August 2025.
Why Orthodontics?
Dr. Mischler's path to orthodontics began in sixth grade when he wrote a paper about his future career goals—he wanted to be an orthodontist. That early inspiration, likely sparked by meeting his older sister's orthodontist, became his lifelong calling. His passion for creating beautiful smiles and working with great people has sustained him throughout his remarkable career.
Personal Life
Outside the office, Dr. Mischler enjoys boating, cycling, and tending to his yard. He's an avid fan of high school and college sporting events and loves tinkering with old cars. For over 20 years, he and his wife brought joy to their community by portraying Mr. and Mrs. Claus during the holiday season.

Dr. Alec McDonald
Dr. McDonald earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in 2018. He continued at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, completing his Doctorate of Dental Medicine and Master of Science in Oral Biology in 2023, followed by his orthodontic residency and Master of Science in Dentistry in 2025. He joined Mischler Orthodontics in July 2025, making it his professional home straight out of residency.

Dr. McDonald was drawn to orthodontics for its unique blend of science, art, and personal expression. He loves that orthodontics allows practitioners to apply their individual approach to treatment with many paths to achieving beautiful results. The big-picture transformations and the visible joy patients experience make every day rewarding.
Patient Care Philosophy
For Dr. McDonald, orthodontics is about building genuine connections. He treasures each appointment as an opportunity to catch up with patients about their families, sports, school, and travels. Working alongside an energetic team that shares his mission of delivering exceptional outcomes creates a positive experience for everyone.
Personal Life
Outside the office, Dr. McDonald stays active through weightlifting, volleyball, and golf. His wife, also a dentist, is from Colorado and has been teaching him to ski, though he admits it involves plenty of falling!
A devoted Colts, Pacers, and University of Louisville fan, he loves attending sporting events and exploring new restaurants with friends. A former bodybuilding competitor, health and wellness remain central to his lifestyle. Fun fact: He's determined to audition for Big Brother until he makes it on the show!

Megan
Treatment Coordinator
Megan has been with Mischler Orthodontics longer than any other team member, joining Dr. Mischler in 2012. She began her dental career in 2006, gaining valuable experience in general dentistry and periodontics before finding her true passion in orthodontics. Her own positive experience with braces sparked her interest in the field and inspired her career path.
After years as a trusted clinical assistant, Megan recently transitioned to treatment coordinator, where she continues to be an integral part of the practice. Her favorite aspect of working at Mischler Orthodontics is the genuine family atmosphere and a close-knit team that works together to create a warm, welcoming environment for our patients.
Outside the office, Megan owns MegDwell, a boutique in Floyds Knobs specializing in vintage furniture, home decor, and carefully curated items. She loves thrifting, hiking, and spending time outdoors. A fun fact: Though she's now firmly rooted in Indiana, Megan was born in California.
Heather
Orthodontic Assistant
Heather joined Mischler Orthodontics in 2015 and never looked back. She received all her training on the job at the practice and earned her radiology license, building expertise over more than a decade with the team.
Heather handles regular adjustments, most braces removal appointments, and the practice's 3D printing operations. Her favorite moment is seeing patients' faces light up when they first see their new smile after their braces come off. Heather loves being part of a team that functions like family, supporting each other through everything.
Outside the office, Heather enjoys creative pursuits like chainmail jewelry, paint-by-number, craft kits, and macramé, creating projects for family and friends. A fun fact: Heather has two middle names, giving her the initials HERB.
Dawn
Orthodontic Assistant
Dawn joined Mischler Orthodontics in 2018. She believes a confident smile can change the way people feel about themselves, and she loves being part of that journey. Dawn received her training on the job and continues expanding her skills with new techniques.
As an orthodontic assistant, Dawn works alongside the doctors and team to provide care for patients with braces, aligners, and appliances. She also handles lab work, sterilization, and ordering. What she loves most is the camaraderie, with everyone working toward the shared goal of creating amazing smile transformations.
Outside the office, Dawn enjoys reading and daily prayer. She also likes puzzles, watercolor painting, yoga, and tackling simple DIY home improvements. Her newest hobby is practicing at-home gel manicures. Fun fact: Dawn is the second of nine children and the oldest girl, earning her the nickname "Mama Dawn" from coworkers.
Michelle
Orthodontic Assistant
Michelle joined Mischler Orthodontics in 2024, bringing education from Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Louisville. As an orthodontic assistant, she provides chairside support during appointments, helps with patient care, and ensures treatments run smoothly. Michelle's favorite part of the job is making high school patients laugh with her jokes and working with a team that shows endless patience.
Outside work, Michelle loves the outdoors, staying active, and building what she calls "great mom lore" for her future kids. She's a coffee shop enthusiast who enjoys reading, working, catching up with friends, or simply taking time for herself over a good cup of coffee. Fun fact: Michelle is an open book who’ll tell you everything about herself without you even having to ask!
Amy
Front Office Manager
Amy joined Mischler Orthodontics in 2018, bringing over 25 years of customer service experience along with training from Indiana University Southeast and New Horizons. She oversees the administrative heartbeat of our practice, managing patient check-ins, financial contracts, insurance verification, payroll, and new employee onboarding.
What Amy loves most about her role is building relationships with patients and their families throughout treatment. She treasures watching younger patients grow into young adults and sharing in the milestones along the way. Her goal is to ensure that every family feels supported from their first visit through their final appointment.
Outside of dentistry, Amy was a Jazzercise instructor for over 30 years, inspiring a lifelong passion for fitness, including walking, running, weight lifting, and cross-training. Amy and her family run a working farm, where she drives tractors, works with cattle, slings hay bales, and mucks stalls. She also loves reading psychological thrillers. Fun facts: Amy was Miss NSA in 1995 and competed in Dancing with the STARS in 2016!
Avery
Front Office Team
Avery joined Mischler Orthodontics in 2025, transitioning from patient to team member, an indication of the positive experience she had at the practice. She attended Indiana University Southeast and brings enthusiasm and dedication to her role at the front desk.
As the first point of contact for patients, Avery manages check-ins and check-outs, coordinates scheduling, handles insurance matters and payments, and monitors dental progress.
Her favorite part of the job is building relationships with patients and watching them grow throughout their orthodontic journey. She brings warmth and efficiency to every interaction, ensuring patients feel welcomed and well-cared for from the moment they arrive for their first appointment.
Outside the office, Avery enjoys attending sports games with her boyfriend. She loves crafting, DIY projects, and finding ways to make things herself. A fun fact about Avery? She used to be blonde!
