Dr. Alec McDonald

Dr. McDonald is proud to continue the tradition of exceptional orthodontic care at Mischler Orthodontics. After joining the practice as an associate orthodontist in July 2025, he worked alongside Dr. Mischler to provide personalized, evidence-based care before assuming ownership of the practice in July 2026. This seamless transition reflects a shared commitment to the same clinical philosophy, patient experience, and high standard of treatment that patients and families have trusted for decades.

Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. McDonald earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis before attending the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. There, he completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Master of Science in Oral Biology (MSOB), orthodontic residency, and Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD).

During dental school and residency, Dr. McDonald developed a passion for orthodontic research. His research in orthodontic materials has been recognized with research awards, published in peer-reviewed literature, and presented at regional, national, and international scientific meetings. He received the American Association of Orthodontists Award for Exemplary Aptitude and Achievement in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, as well as the Award for Excellence in Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases Research. Dr. McDonald is a proud member of the American Association of Orthodontists.

Personal Life

Outside the office, Dr. McDonald stays active through weightlifting, volleyball, and golf. His wife, also a dentist, is from Colorado and has been teaching him to ski, though he admits it involves plenty of falling!

A devoted Colts, Pacers, and University of Louisville fan, he loves attending sporting events and exploring new restaurants with friends. A former bodybuilding competitor, health and wellness remain central to his lifestyle. Fun fact: He's determined to audition for Big Brother until he makes it on the show!
