Phase 1 orthodontic treatment, also called early interceptive treatment, is performed while a child still has a combination of baby teeth and permanent teeth. Its purpose is to address specific developing orthodontic problems, such as crossbites, significant crowding, or certain jaw growth concerns, when early intervention may be beneficial. Not every child needs Phase 1 treatment! At Mischler Orthodontics, Dr. McDonald carefully evaluates each child's growth and development to determine whether early treatment offers a meaningful advantage or whether waiting is the better approach.
